Just Stuff It!!! Thats what I say!
As I said yesterday, I love stuffing! This is my favorite side dish by far during the Holidays, If it is done right. I will go back for thirds, or even fourths if It’s really good. There are a few things that you need to consider, when making the perfect stuffing. First is the bread… I don’t care what type of bread you choose, as long as it goes with your theme and you toast it well before you try to turn it into stuffing. Well toasted bread stays crunchy, giving your stuffing that crunch we all like, where just stale bread soaks up all the liquid and gives us a soggy end result.
The next step is the added ingredients, such as raisins, or other dried fruits, vegetables, herbs, and so on! These are very important to the end result of course. However you need to look at the Whole meal to figure out what you want to add or leave out. Make sure your sides have a good flow with your main course ( your turkey ) To do this have a theme and stick to it! Remember all your sides are there to enhance your main dish, so keep them in the same vein. Less is better in most cases, just keep it simple, and you will succeed.
Stuffing however, must be very full of flavor! It should be bold, and almost over power your taste-buds. To achieve this you can’t be afraid to use a lot of herbs, spices, and vegetables, Less is not more here! I have searched for a site to give you some ideas and found this one. It has the best overall view as far as I could tell. It also follows my theory of putting everything in your stuffing that you want to come out of your meal! And it talks about drying your bread first, which as I said, is to me the most important part of creating a great stuffing!
Tomorrow lets talk about the gravy!
I want to give you all you need to make a memorable Thanksgiving!
Always,
James
