Being a personnal chef! Is It worth it?

Published by jameslockwood at 1:15 am under Uncategorized Edit This

In the early days of my career I fantasized about being the personal chef to a “Big movie star”, or some wealthy business man! So when I moved out to California, I thought I was on my way! Then I met a few, and heard the real story behind it. I wasn’t impressed to say the least! It sounds all glamorous, but the truth is You have no life of your own, and you are at their mercy, or worse, beckoning call! I would hate this, They almost always have a strict diet that you have to follow. A time table , as well as some Major parties you have to pull off, and you don’t get paid that well in the beginning. It just hasn’t seemed that worth it for me to pursue! I will say for the right person, or family it might be rewarding, I just haven’t found them yet!

I have met several personal Chefs and most of them love their jobs! Hell I was Babara Streisand’s personal Chef “for one night” and hated it! It was a nightmare! I love to tell the story, but I would not want to live that life, but I’ll post on that later.

I have had the Honor to meet Howard Hughes‘, last Chef. She is incredible! In her late 80’s, from Germany, hates Los Angeles, and somewhat senile. We started our first conversation because I smiled at Her and said hello as I was walking by on my way too work one day. She was so shocked when I didn’t ignore her she turned and called me back. Her stories of cooking for him, or other starlets of old Hollywood are INSANE! But She got nothing! I feel this is a travesty! She served one of the most influential, wealthiest people of our time, She should have gotten something! She now knits slippers, and sells them for $6 a pair. I got a pair just because of who she was, but now I wear them all the time, they really are comfortable, and toasty on the toes! I have to go find her again and get another pair, maybe that will be my Christmas gifts to everyone this season!
