Baked Armadillo in Amarillo? No?, what about a 72oz steak for free!

Well the simple fact is you can have either, or both if you feel so inclined! Amarillo, TX is an amazing place, I should know, I grew up there. For my first 17 years of life it was really all I knew, sure I got down to the “Big City” of Dallas/ Fort Worth a bit, hell I even lived there for a while! Amarillo was always home to me though, I knew that city like the back of my own hand! I think I still might, even though I haven’t been home for several years.
For such a “small town” it has many things going for it. You should really take the time to explore the site above and see the diversity this city really has. From the largest Helium producer in the nation, to Pantex the only Final assembly/disassembly point for ALL nuclear warheads in the country, as well as one of the largest beef processing plants in the nation. It also boast the two things I want to bring you today, OK… three!

First I want to go to the non-food related item on our menu: The Cadillac ranch! A group Ant Farm created this work back in 1974, I was 6 at the time and remember it well! It was a big deal! Stanley Marsh who was the Patron of this project, believes that art is for the people. Therefor encourages you to walk up to the piece touch it and yes ,even leave your mark! No one has ever been sited for trespassing, or vandalism,(for spray painting on the cars or signing them with a sharpie)! It is purely interactive art! And one of the most Iconic pieces of public art in our country! Stanley Marsh has many other pieces in and around Amarillo, but the Cadillac Ranch is his best known! I had the privilege to go to school with one of his sons, and visit their home where as you would imagine in the front lawn… was a VW. bug buried halfway just like the Cadillac’s(labeled the ranchette), with peacock’s living in it! I love this mans support for the arts, even though I don’t always get the message! Well I have ranted again so I will pick this up where I left off, tomorrow. I hate to leave you hanging on how to prepare Armadillo but it looks as if I do. I want to make sure I follow through with my main subjects first! Stanley was mine today! tomorrow will be the steak thing and possibly the Armadillo as well. If not I will get to that by Sunday at the latest!

Love October,

James
