But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26

Wow, Thats imagery, and true if you believe that the Bible is the True word of God and not of man. I find This passage more interesting for the salt reference. Salt is mentioned 4 times in the Bible. 3 of those 4 are in a negative way, and the fourth isn’t very flattering either. Why would such an important spice and preservative be spoken about so poorly? It, like most other spices, was quite expensive at the time. as well as important.
Even today, I feel we overlook this wonder. Yes, we add it to our food to enhance the flavor, and spread it on our streets and sidewalks in the winter to melt the ice, Hell we even throw it over our shoulder for good luck! Yet many people don’t even call it a spice, and don’t even think about how much they are adding or why. What is it about salt? Sugar gets far more attention. It is one of the 4 flavors we can actually taste! Bitter, sour, sweet, and yes salty! Some may fight me on this fact, due to the “recent discoveries” that are saying we can taste two other things, but I am standing my ground! I am also coming to the defense of this wonderfully diverse compound.
Without salt, our life would be “bland” Tasteless and boring. I have the pleasure (for me, not so much for them) to know a few people who can’t smell. They can only taste the 4 things we spoke about before. Our nose does all the rest. They can eat anything, but don’t really enjoy it! they don’t taste the difference between a good steak and a red beet! but whatever they put in their mouth better not be too salty! Just like us they will spit it out as fast as they can. To much of anything is never good so lets just try to moderate ourselves. I am going to leave this for now… but I will come back to it in the next few days.
For now I would like to pass on to my friends blog about a Salt Mine in Poland I hope to visit some day.
